Derek Erickson, DVM

Dr. Erickson joined the Animal Emergency Hospital team in 2017 after earning his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University. While at MSU, Dr. Erickson was awarded the Dr. Robert B. Ziegler Caring Award.

He truly has a large heart for little paws. He shares his home with Michele, a morkie, and Romy, a chihuahua/dachshund mix.

Dr. Erickson enjoys kayaking, golf, fishing and hiking. His most recent ventures were along the Incan Trail in Peru. He also enjoys Magic the Gathering and trivia.

Chelsea Bickerstaff Dost, DVM

AEH gladly welcomed Dr. Bickerstaff to the team early in 2018. She earned her Bachelor’s in Animal Science in 2010 and her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2014 from Michigan State University. After practicing general medicine for four years, she has gained special skills in internal medicine and surgery. She is now embracing emergency and critical care medicine.

Dr. Bickerstaff is married and lives on a small farm with horses, cows, chickens and ducks. Her home is blessed with Wilma, a great dane, Pebbles, a blue heeler, and two cats, Chester and Elvis.

She enjoys gardening, riding horses, and farming with her husband. They also enjoy bonfires and concerts together in the summer.

Matt Grupido, DVM

Matt Grupido, DVM

Matt has known since he was five years old that he always wanted to be a veterinarian. He began his veterinary career walking dogs at a local veterinary clinic. Since 2001, Matt has been in and out of the field while working towards his acceptance into veterinary school. He worked full time while going to college to earn his major in biology from Oakland University. After realizing his dream and being accepted as a non-traditional student to MSU in 2016; he has never looked back. He recently graduated in May of 2020.

Matt enjoys working with all species of animals but has the most experience with cats and dogs. He loves the fast pace and urgency involved with emergency practice but understands this is a very difficult time for owners. His empathy and compassion with clients is unmatched. Matt prides himself on treating all animals as if they were his own.

He currently lives with two cats of his own, Butters and Skittles, his long time girlfriend Andrea, her daughter Avery, and their cat Glitz. He enjoys camping, kayaking, fishing, hiking, and biking whenever he can.
